Brunello di Montalcino 2016 0,75 Lt
It promises to be a truly outstanding year in Montalcino. 2016 Brunello
Technical Specifications:
Slope and Position: hilly southwest
Altitude: 374m above sea level
Climate: typically Mediterranean with precipitation concentrated in spring and autumn months. The location of our vineyards, the ventilation and the lack of fog guarantee the best conditions for vine vegetation and for the health of the grapes
Soil Composition: Particularly rocky soil made up of marl and alberese (clay, lime and rock) Shales
Variety: 100% Sangiovese select
Training System and Pruning: Horizontal cordon training with short pruning, 4 to 5 spurs with maximum of 2 buds per plant which allows for a low yield per hectare, around 63-64 quintals in 2016
Cultivation Techniques: are entirely done by hand with particular care and attention to the winter pruning, the selection of shoots and the thinning out of the grapes
Harvest: first week of October in 2016
Vinification: the grapes are vinified separately in steel vats. The fermentation is temperature controlled between 24° and 26° with a long maceration of the grapes, which, with frequent pumping over of the cap and délestage, allow for the extraction of polyphenols from the skins which has an important function in the longevity and quality of the wine.
Drawing off: soft pressing to separate the skins from the wine
Ageing: three years, instead of only two required by the disciplinary, in 25 to 32 hl oak barrels and at least one year in the bottle.
Organoleptic Characteristics: The 2016 vintage for Brunello di Montalcino is widely considered to be another excellent year.
Winter was pretty cool with the conditions continuing through to spring. Flowering was generally a success, Summer eventually came with July bringing hot, dry weather which was broken once by rain in August which, by that point, was welcome. October saw some rain and our hot days and cool nights proved ideal Sangiovese and the harvest was a success. This Brunello is well-balanced and displaying exceptional fruit, aromatics along with well-integrated tannins. There should be plenty of fantastic options for a long-term drinking.
First tasting notes: The wine has precise aromas and flavours with beautifully harmonious tannins. Elegant and appealing body, vigorous and racy with a lengthy aromatic persistence offering plenty of enjoyable and affordable drinking.
Brunello lovers must get ready for what should be another fabulous year: 2016.
